Buondì.
Episode 15 of our FREE Summer Series on The Renaissance is ready for you to read/listen to. Do take a look:
Il Rinascimento, Episodio 15. Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, il signore del Piemonte
And being #15, out of thirty episodes, it’s a reminder that we’re already at the mid-way point of the series. Doesn’t time fly?
In five weeks’ time, the series and the summer will be over… People will be back at school (hurrah) or at work (sigh), in short, things will be back to normal, and I have to say, I’ll have mixed feelings about that.
The months since May have been long and hot, but fall/autumn is my least favorite season.
Also last September I had a serious stroke, which means an anniversary I’m not looking forward to is approaching.
But ‘Tiriamo avanti’, as Italians say! Though in Milanese dialect it’s ‘Tirèmm innànz’, apparently. Read this article to find out about the origins of that version of the expression.
Coincidentally, we’ll be covering the events in Milan that gave rise to their version of the saying in Episode 29 of the Renaissance series, one Wednesday in mid-September, by which time diligent students will know all about the historical background that inspired such stoicism.
The 15 episodes of The Renaissance published so far are linked to from our History page, along with the rather depraved Story of Rome, and the endless Middle ages.
That’s seventy-five articles with audio, to listen to over the weekend. There’ll be a test next week, as my teachers used to say…
By the way, next summer we’re doing ‘Dal Risorgimento alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale’, which is more my period. Hope you’ll still be with us then.
A lunedì!
P.S.
Here’s a final reminder to grab your copy of this week’s eBook of the Week, Aria di festa, while it’s half the usual price!
Until Sunday night, it’s just £3.99, rather than the standard ‘easy reader’ ebook price of £7.99.
Gianni is a gourmet journalist who is increasingly cynical about the popular ‘Slow Food’ movement. He persuades his editor to let him spend the summer searching out and reviewing ‘Slow Food’ events, but the more he finds out, the more his fears seem to be confirmed…

I also published a 102 page ebook, Best of EasyItalianNews.com 2021-2022 (find all four years’ Best Ofs here).
But if you ever donated cash to the EasyItalianNews.com team (grazie!) DON’T BUY IT!
But it’s currently on offer, you object.
Yes, but towards the end of the month, when people are back from holiday, I’ll be EMAILING FREE COPIES TO DONORS.
Don’t worry that you might miss it. I’ll get the EasyItalianNews.com team to include an article about it, when I send out the free ebooks.

It hadn’t escaped my thoughts that we are now halfway through this amazing series.
The reading and listening are both helping to improve my Italian. I love history and it is interesting to read about events from an Italian perspective. Generally, people view the Renaissance as a time noted for great works of art, literature and changes in thinking on philosophy, religion and science. However, those with power and money were still ruthless, in order to flaunt their wealth and power.
It has been a long, hot, dry summer here too and even in the North of England, the mercury is set to rise above 30° again today. The end of summer used to mean the return to work and school, as I was a teacher, Now retired! Although for you the September anniversary of your stroke must be a little daunting, it is great that you are able to mark the occasion. I look forward to the remaining 15 episodes and of course you can count on me joining you when the next series begins

Thanks again for commenting, Lynne. We get so few people interacting, though in a part I think it’s this first post-pandemic summer – people are all busy doing the things they weren’t able to do since 2019.
Hopefully things will liven up soon.
Thanks again for your support!

Half way through already – time does indeed fly! I am really enjoying this series – learning about the complexities of Italian history and at the same time improving my listening, reading and understanding. I still don’t understand everything but I do feel that I have improved since listening to the first series La Storia Di Roma.
I will also be joining you for the next series Dal Risorgimento alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale and look forward to it. In the meantime, I can listen to the other series’ again – always better second time around!
Health-wise, I hope you continue to improve!

Brava Anita!!
