Buonasera, benvenuti a questa nuova puntata del programma “Amici animali”, io sono Simona e oggi parleremo di gatti e di cani, ma prima dobbiamo fare un annuncio importante.
Avvisiamo che è stato ritrovato un cagnolino. E’ un cane di piccola taglia. Ha il pelo corto e rossiccio, con una macchia nera sul muso. Sul collare c’è una medaglia con scritto il nome Briciola.
Briciola ha orecchie piccole e dritte e la coda con il pelo folto.
E’ stato ritrovato ieri al tramonto nei pressi di Villa Borghese. Lo ha ritrovato una signora che faceva jogging e lo ha portato subito dal veterinario.
Il padrone può telefonare allo studio del dottor Giovanni Cardi, il veterinario che lo ha visitato.
Il cane sta bene e aspetta il suo padrone!

Ecco il testo della registrazione,. Purtroppo, non ho capito una parola, che cosa deve fare John tutti i giorni.
Mi chiamo Marta, sono una studentessa di medicina di Palermo, ma al momento studio a Siena. Sto cercando una stanza molto economica in una casa, non importa se piccola. Infatti, non lavoro e i miei genitori mi aiutano a pagare l’affitto. Poiché purtroppo fumo, cerco anche una casa con persone che fumino o a cui non dia fastidio l’odore di fumo.
Mi chiamo John e sono uno studente Americano. Sono venuto in Italia per studiare la musica lirica. Mi devo … tutti i giorni nel canto, per cui cerco un posto dove poter cantare senza disturbare nessuno. Meglio, se in un appartamente nuovo. Cerco una stanza che costa al massimo duecento euro.
Sono Gilda, sto cercando una stanza in un bel appartamento grande e nuovo. Poiché non ho problemi economici, posso permettermi anche una stanza più cara pur che sia bella. Vorrei una casa con un grande bagno con doccia. Io e il mio gatto non vediamo l’ora di trasferirci.
Allora, è Gilda che dovrei rispondere al primo annuncio, mentre il secondo è accettabile per Marta.

Inoltre, ho fatto un errore stupido nella mia risposta. Gilda DOVREBBE rispondere al primo annuncio.

Il primo annuncio é ideale per Gilda perché risponde alla sua esigenza. Sebbene lei dica che si adatta, non si sa se le piacciono gli animali.
Marta invece deve rispondere al secondo annuncio che accetta fumatori.
Giacché il povero John ha bisogno di una camera con sufficiente isolamento acustico che le permetta praticare il canto ogni giorno, dovrà cercare qualche altro annuncio che offra posto adatto alla sua richiesta.

Anyway my question concerns ‘sia’
I know it is the singular presenr tense of the congiuntivo
but am I right in assuming it is also “whether”…….. “or”
an example
“whether red or green I think it is a good colour” ->
“sia rosso sia verde penso che sia un buon colore”

Arguably they’re different words, rather than different uses of the same word, John. Homonyms.
But yes, it’s used as you describe.

Note also the common use of ‘sia’ + ‘che’…
