Monday again and here’s another free Italian listening comprehension exercise!
This is the last in our A2 series.
What will be next?
Haven’t decided. The options are B1 (intermediate) or C2 (proficiency). Both series are ready to publish… If you’d like to help me decide which should come next, leave a comment on this article with your preference…
Still in the recording studio we have a new series of short biographies of people who have streets named after them (Italian scientists, historical figures, and so on), written by the younger of my teenage daughters in return for some cash to spend on holiday.
Plus a really interesting, and really long, series of articles which each focus on one particular grammatical area – there are about 40 of them, so I’m holding that back for the autumn and winter when the youngsters are back from their holidays.
But anyway, here’s today’s A2 exercise… As usual, I’ll remind you that if you don’t see the image with the task in it, or the audio plugin, which should appear below it, to click this link to view the article on our website.
The transcript will be included in the next article, probably on Wednesday.
Transcript from the previous exercise
Here’s the transcript for exercise 4 in the current series. You can find it here if you’d like to listen again while reading the transcript.
P.S.
Thursday we’re opening a new online conversation group for up to 5 participants. It’s at 8 a.m. (Italian time), which makes it a good time for anyone in Australia or other ‘ahead’ time zone, but terrible for anyone in the US.
The cost for five 1-hour conversation lessons is €49.99. You need a conversational level in Italian of at least beginning A2.
There are four places left. First come, first served. Go here to sign up for this class.
View all our online Italian conversation groups. We’ll open groups at more convenient days/times with a minimum of one or two students. Just e-mail if you’re interested.

Secondo me C2 è come la stratosfera, percio io preferisco B1
Off piste, as they say, I have come across a technique called “shadowing”
Basically one listens to some text spoken by a native speaker listens to the sounds not the words, then try to repeat the sounds “on top” as quickly as one can. obviously repeating the process as often as needed
This is supposed to help you with understanding the spoken word, the rhythm of the Italian language, the accent, stresses etc. more importantly it helps you, apparently, to “think” in Italia, without the need for a mental translation, which obviously slows down conversation.
I will let you all know how I get on
Saluti
John

Interesting to hear about the technique you’re using to improve your speaking. Hope it’s working out well for you!

Thanks Daniel, I am enjoying all of these listening levels and wouldn’t particularly go above B1 yet. However you can’t please all of the people all of the time so throw at us what you will and we will have a go.
Many thanks

Thanks for the input, Karen. As you will see, I’ve gone with your choice of the B1 stuff…
