I’m expecting a great deal of confusion with the time zones, given that we have winners as far apart as the west coast of the USA (8 hours behind) and Australia (7 or more hours ahead).
While trying to figure out the logistics of that I came across this great time zone map which saves a lot of mental arithmatic as you can instantly see what time it is all over the world!
Who knew that Australia has 3 different time zones? Surely Janine did, but not me.
Interesting to see the distribution of OnlineItalianClub.com members from the list above. Lots in the USA, for obvious historical reasons, Europe too, it being close by, but nobody at all from Asia. Doesn’t anyone in Japan, China, Korea, and so on, want to learn Italian?
I’d be fascinated to hear from other people reading this post: where do YOU live, and why are you interested in learning Italian?
Is it because you have Italian ancestors? Or for career or business reasons? Or because of the “dolce vita”? Or like me, because you fell in love with an Italian?
Leave a comment by filling in the form below: WHERE are you in the world, and WHY are you learning Italian?
P.S. Congratulations to the winners – if, for whatever reason, you don’t hear from our teacher, please feel free to write to me directly.
P.P.S. And if anyone else is interested in trying this convenient and useful way of learning Italian, click here to get more details of our Skype Italian Lessons.

Congratulations to the winners!
Hi, David. I’m located in New York City, second generation American with 100% Italian blood. Like others of my generation, we were not permitted to learn Italian, largely due to the discrimination experienced by our grandparents when they arrived here. They wanted us to blend in. However, we heard the language as children since our parents spoke it (mostly the regional language) with their parents. Not having to learn it did not bother me as a child, since foreign language was not one of my favorite subjects. As an adult though, I began to long for the wonderful melody and fluidity I heard as a child. It is such a beautiful language! I *love* studying Italian and use it every chance I get.

Sorry, I know you’re Daniel. David is one of my Italian study partners! Fingers must have been on automatic pilot. 🙂

Hi Helen. That’s not a very Italian name, though, for someone with your ancestry.
I wasn’t interested in foreign languages either when I was a kid. Ironic that I ended up as a language teacher and living in a foreign country.
I would imagine that there are lots of people learning Italian in NYC. Is that right?

Ciao Daniel!
Viva Italia!
In bocca al lupo!
Maia
