Buondì.
Ever heard of the Lanzichenecchi?
I came across them years back, in a rather trashy novel about a high-class prostitute who loses almost everything due to the Lanzichenecchi, so has to escape to Venice, where she continues her trade until, well… that would be giving it away.
If I could remember the title, I’d tell you. But I can’t. Sorry!
However, you can find out who the Lanzichenecchi were, and how they fitted into the geopolitical scene of the early sixteenth century, in Episode 14 of our FREE Summer Series on The Renaissance.
Il Rinascimento, Episodio 14. Gli Asburgo e il sacco di Roma dei Lanzichenecchi (1527)
Listen online while reading the text. Don’t worry about the parts you don’t understand (it is rather complex this time). The practice will do you good anyway!
If you haven’t yet begun, or started but fell behind, all the episodes published so far can be accessed, along with the entire Summer Series from 2020 and 2021, from our History page.

Gianni is a gourmet journalist who is increasingly cynical about the popular ‘Slow Food’ movement. He persuades his editor to let him spend the summer searching out and reviewing ‘Slow Food’ events, but the more he finds out, the more his fears seem to be confirmed…
