Today we have the ninth (out of ten) in the first part of our Italian Conversations series, plus a new Italian easy reader – look out for the link to the free sample chapter at the end of this post.
So I’ve been lamenting the quality of the audio recordings in this series (perhaps you have too.) In particular the male speaker’s voice, which sounds dreadfully flat.
But today’s dialogue ‘La ricerca della scuola di lingua italiana‘ needed a foreign voice, and I recall one busy afternoon months ago someone asking me if I could please take a few seconds to read this dialogue.
I was given a piece of paper and a laptop was thrust into my face. The dialogue read, I got back to what I was doing and thought no more about it…
So horrors! I listened to today’s Italian Conversation and recognized myself, making a truly terrible job of it… And it’s true what everyone tells me – I really do have an unmistakable English accent!
So apologies to OnlineItalianClub.com ‘members’ for the poor quality of recent recordings, and to colleagues whose efforts I’ve maligned in recent weeks. I see now it’s really not as easy as it seems.
But hopefully we can do better with the next batch of conversations, which will be recorded this week and published from Friday onwards…

New Italian Easy Reader!
As I mentioned on Friday, today we have the launch of our newest easy Italian reader. It’s our twenty-fourth, and in my opinion they’re getting better and better!
Easy readers are texts designed for learners who do not yet feel confident reading ‘authentic’ Italian texts. You read, you listen to the audio recording, perhaps you do the exercises and check difficult words in your dictionary.
And the result?
Hopefully, when you’re done, your Italian will be just that little bit better! Reading and listening to the text will help you consolidate the grammar you’ve studied, and give you practice recognizing and processing structures and vocabulary that you’re not yet familiar with.
Listening to the audio several times, first with and then without the text, will support the development of your listening comprehension skills and so increase your confidence.
And because a reader is essentially a story, spending a few hours with this type of supplementary material will add interest and variety to your Italian course or self-study program, and perhaps increase your motivation.
Certainly, were you to include one reader a week in your Italian study program, and stick with it over a period of months, you’d be adding tens or even hundreds of extra hours of focused study and valuable input and practice.
Sort of like switching on a turbo-charger!
Well anyway, see for yourself. Today’s new Italian easy reader is ‘Un viaggio nel tempo‘.
