Today we are publishing our first nine Italian/English parallel texts.
See them here.
To celebrate, I’m giving one away COMPLETEY FREE!
Read on to find out how to get your parallel text, normal price £7.99, gratis!
But first, what exactly is a parallel text?
The first picture shows the cover of our free gift.
And the second picture?
That one shows Chapter 1, with the original Italian story on the left and the translation into English on the right.
Simple as that.
I guess you can see the potential for learning Italian, right?
So, how do you get yours (and view the other eight, which aren’t free…)?
Here’s a link to the easyreaders.org shop, ‘Learn Italian’ section:
https://easyreaders.org/product-category/italian/
Click on the ‘Colpo di forbici’ cover image (you’ll see that it’s FREE!)
Choose ‘Add to cart’.
Next you’ll see a link to your shopping cart.
If you miss it, there’s one in the site’s main menu that’ll also take you right there.
Once in the cart, fill in your personal details.
To save yourself from having to do that again in the future, check the ‘create an account’ button (see image.)
Now go ahead and complete your order.
If you’ve only selected ‘Colpo di forbici‘, there’s no payment phase.
If you’re also buying something, you can choose between Paypal, bank transfer (which is a pain), and Pay With Amazon (which is smooth and easy!)
Next, you’ll be taken to a page with the download link.
It’s rather small, so here’s a picture:
Click the orange text, to the right of where it says ‘Download’ in black.
The link is good for a maximum of three downloads (to protect our server) and is valid for just seven days.
So the first time you click it, save the .pdf file on your computer, tablet or phone.
Once you have your master saved somewhere safe, you can always then email copies to your other devices (phone, tablet, etc.)
Assuming you typed in your email address correctly, you’ll also get an email with the download link.
Finally, if you checked the ‘create an account’ box at the order stage, you’ll also receive an email with your username and password for the site.
With these, you can view your orders, change your personal info, and generally avoid having to enter your details for future purchases.
An important P.S.
Once you actually HAVE your free parallel text, you will presumably want to view pages side by side, so you can compare the Italian and English versions (which is the point…)
The file is a .pdf so will open with whatever the default .pdf reader on your device is.
These can vary and will probably NOT show the chapters side-by-side, as intended.
For this reason, we recommend the free Adobe Reader, which is installed on many computers in any case.
If you don’t have it, download it here (though I’d suggest un-checking the ‘Optional Offers’…)
With Adobe Reader, this is what you do:
- Download the file
- Don’t just click on it or it will open in a browser, which probably works differently
- Instead, view it in your device’s downloads file
- Open with Adobe Reader
- In Adobe Reader…
- Look in the menu (at the top) for ‘View’, then choose ‘Page display’
- Choose ‘two page view’ (for the parallel text) or ‘single page view’ for normal documents
- Use ‘View’ / ‘Read mode’ to make the text larger or smaller so that it fits your screen
- Use the ‘zoom’ and ‘page up/down’ buttons to navigate through the book
Ready to try that?

A mercoledì!

I could not get the free book it would not accept my zip code
Daniel says
Ciao Jeanne,
The default country setting on the easyreaders.org order form is for the U.K., where the shop is based zip codes have a different format.
If you select your country FIRST, the zip code will work.
Give it a try. Shame to miss the free ebook. The offer ends on Sunday.

I have tried 4 times to get the free book but every time after creating an account, I end up at the Enter credit card details page. I haven’t been able to reach the DOWNLOAD page yet. So, must I enter my card details , even though the book is free? Please advise as I would very much like to try this parallel text offer.
Daniel says
The offer has ended, Marilyn. We gave away 600 copies of the book over a week. I reminded people every day.
And now? It’s back to the usual price. Not free any more…
Hence the shop requires payment.
It’s not a trick, you just missed the deadline.
However, if you read today’s post (11/11/16) you’ll see that there’s another free ebook offer.
