Just a quickie today.
I’ve published an article this morning on our sponsor school’s website that I thought might interest you.
It’s about the psychological challenges of taking language classes taught only in that language. And about quality of teaching, or lack of it.
Italian lessons IN Italian? How does that work then?
If you’ve ever taken an Italian course, or thought of doing so, you might want to go over there and have a look.
As an experienced learner of the language, your comments on the article would be welcome, too.
Just fill in the box at the bottom of the page.
Maybe be can get a debate going.
That would liven up a quiet Friday in December, wouldn’t it?

As ever, a thought provoking article Daniel worth commenting on, Unfortunately despite your best efforts not many comments are forthcoming, why is this ?
1 – people cannot be bothered
2 – are shy and do not want to look foolish
3 – people feel they have nothing worth adding
4 – people do not know where to look for comments and replies
5 – people would prefer to comment on specific points such as a grammar question, or why use that phrase instead of that one
6 – people are having difficulty knowing when to ‘post a comment’ or ‘reply’, this seems to affect the position in the ‘thread’.
7 – like Ruth some people are sad that the ‘forums’ have gone. In all fairness they were not being used.
What I would like to see as options would be something like
1 – Daniels articles and comment / reply threads Essential
2 – grammar and vocabulary questions and comments / reply threads
3 – personal stuff which might interest members, like visits to Italy, recipes etc. with comments / reply threads
I think I have had a glimpse of Daniel’s psyche in this latest article
he describes all good teachers as feminine, all bad teaches as masculine a Freudian slip or what
So come on Members, let’s hear it for Daniel

It has taken me many years to come to the conclusion that Daniel has offered. Why it took so long, I don’t know. Perhaps it is a product of my personality – engineering and mathematics degrees. But several years ago I finally figured out that you can conjugate verbs and memorize vocabulary lists until the “cows come home” and still not be able to orally make a very comprehensible sentence in Italian. Taking a class in which it is the only language spoken is the best way to learn the language.
Also, I have been following Daniel’s web site for several years, and I have nothing but great things to say about it. Great stuff in it – teaching concepts, ebooks, etc.. Keep them coming!
