First ever sci-fi Italian easy reader? 3, 2, 1… Accensione!

February 8, 2016 by Daniel

I’ve two things to tell you today.

First, we have the publication of our first ever sci-fi Italian easy reader.

And then, there’s the link to no. 54 in our Italian conversations series of free dialogues with transcripts.

So that should keep you busy this gloomy Monday in February…

New Italian Easy Reader: 3, 2, 1… Accensione!

Enrico Maso, one of our regular easy-reader writers, was in the mood to try something different.

And Stefania Zamagni, our new editor, whose first effort, Segreti e polpette, did so well recently, was willing to let him have his head.

The result is our first ever, genre-bending, sci-fi Italian easy reader.

No soppy love stories or food porn today, instead with Cereo 12 we’ll be blasting off for a distant planet!

Here’s the blurb from the product page:Cover image: Italian easy reader, 'Cereo 12 ' by Enrico Maso

Captain Vidoni is just back from his most recent space mission, but HQ needs him for an exciting new one: a small planet, Cereo 12, has been showing unusual electromagnetic activity… Can Vidoni – helped by his young assistant Caldier – solve the mystery?

Even if sci-fi isn’t your thing, I’d still suggest taking a look at the free sample chapter (.pdf), which will give you an idea of the level and has a link to the audio for the entire story.

By downloading the free sample chapter (.pdf)  if you so chose, you could listen to all eight chapters today, no purchase necessary!

That said, this is quite a challenging text at B1/2 level. There are lots of examples of the ‘passato remoto’, so it’s closer to ‘real’ Italian than many of our other simplified stories.

But do take a look at the free sample chapter – it’s excellent for your grammar, good training in reading comprehension, a chance to learn some new words, and fantastic listening practice – all rolled into one!

Italian easy readers, in my not-disinterested but entirely correct opinion, are an ideal supplement to the typical Italian course. Incorporating readers in your study program will add variety while boosting your self-confidence with Italian texts and improving your awareness of how Italian looks and sounds.

Almost forgot to say – this first week the full text for Cereo 12 can be had for just €7.50, instead of the usual €9.99.

Enrico’s other easy readers include (from the oldest to the newest): Ciak si gira, Cielo libero, La montagna, Correre a tempo, Aria di Festa and Caccia all’autografo, You’ll find sample chapters for all of them in our online shop.
