No new free exercises today, sorry!
Instead, I’m launching our new online shop.
OnlineItalianClub.com already HAS an online shop, of course.
But it specialises in e-books for people learning, well, Italian!
And if you’ve been paying attention over the last year or so, you’ll be aware that we’ve also started developing websites for learners of other languages. Many of these are now done.
A logical next step, then, was to begin ‘localising’ our original stories into those other languages.
Localising?
In our popular story for beginners ‘Il ristorante‘, Nick comes to Bologna to learn Italian and do an Italian cookery course.
Whereas in the Spanish version, ‘El restaurante‘, he plumps for some place in Spain and paella.
And in the French version, ‘Le restaurant‘, it’s Paris.
You get the idea.
The whole process has been so much fun!
I’ve been brushing up my French and Turkish this way, and making a start with Spanish.
Yes, you really can learn a language just by using easy readers, especially if the new language shares roots with one you already know.
Anyway, putting the ‘other languages’ readers into the OnlineItalianClub.com shop wouldn’t have been ideal…
Hence the need for a new website, one specialising in e-books for learners of foreign languages, not only Italian.
It’s called easyreaders.org.
If you take a look, you’ll find most of what’s in the onlineitalianclub.com shop, along with the first few texts for learners of French, Spanish, English and Swedish.
We’ve got more readers coming in those languages, plus German, Turkish, Japanese and maybe even Arabic.
And there will shortly be some parallel texts, too!
Parallel texts are e-books which contain a story in the language you want to learn, and a line-by-line translation into English.
So you can compare the two languages, focusing on the grammar or vocabulary that interests you. It also makes understanding the story much easier, of course, though that’s not necessarily a good thing.
We’re doing the final formatting on the first of the parallel texts at the moment. Sample chapters will be available at easyreaders.org in the next week or two.
OK, so before you head over to check out the new shop, I’d mention that easyreaders.org has a separate mailing list for occasional news of publications and offers.
To encourage you to get your email address on the list, there’s a 33% coupon code as an incentive!
Sign up for the easyreaders.org list by filling in the form here (or watch out for the irritating pop up.)
When the ‘please confirm’ email arrives, click the link it contains to give us permission to contact you.
You’ll then be sent the coupon code for the easyreaders.org shop.
The 33% coupon code is ‘use once only’, with no minimum or maximum spend.
It will apply to everything in your shopping cart, except things that are already on sale.
More about the new site on mercoledì (then next week back to business as usual.)
