Call me boring, but I’ve been doing the family shopping at the same Italian supermarket for the past 17 years.
Which means that I can spot a bargain when I see one.
For example yesterday, when I passed by a waist-high wicker basket-type display.
It was piled high with a jumble of the sort of products that no one wants, which are therefore close to their ‘sell by’ date.
Diet biscuits, plastic bread, over-priced grissini, you get the idea.
Each product in the basket had a bright-yellow and red sticker, advertising a -50% discount at the till:

I’ll leave you to do the translation.
Might come in handy if you ever find yourself shopping on a budget at the Corticella branch of Coop Adriatica.
It’s rare that I pick out anything from this display, though I can never resist a peek.
Meno male!
Because this time, hidden under the diet biscuits, were eight or nine
bottles of excellent German beer.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Italians are not wise about beer.
But I hate waste, don’t you?
So, just to help out, I bought them all.
Sometimes you just need to ‘cogliere‘ the ‘attimo‘!
