Buondì.
As I’m only writing regularly on Wednesdays now, by next week it’ll already be next year, and I’ll have missed the chance to wish you Buon Anno.
Also to chunter about New Year resolutions, and the things you could resolve to do to improve your Italian (and/or other languages) in 2024.
I can do the Buon Anno part now, at least. There, done. Don’t drink too much prosecco.
We’ll be at home on the 31st, grazie a Dio (Inshallah, if you prefer.)
We being Stefi and Tom (editor, and husky voice, of EasyItalianNews.com), myself and Bug, who drove us a little nuts over Natale, mostly just at night, though.
I have a cold and a cough, which disturbs him. He has colicky pains, regularly each mid-point between one nocturnal feed and the next, and at random other moments. So cries.
To cap it all, Stefi ate too much mascarpone (a dessert), so for a whole night was nauseous and suffering from stomach pain.
None of this needed to be a problem, except that we were, all three, crammed into a bed suitable for one and a half slim people. And alert to the risk of disturbing our adult kids, and my in-laws, who could presumably hear each cough, cry, and moan through the thin, internal walls.
Thought they at least got a bed each, so probably deserved not to sleep too well!
Bug was good during the day. We walked by the sea, he got cuddled by loads of zie (so distracting them from me), and served as an excellent excuse to avoid after-lunch speeches, boring parts of gift-giving, and so on.
Hope you had a nice time, and got more sleep than we did.
Regarding New Year resolutions, well, what the heck! I might just not make any this year, apart from, perhaps, to get more ZZZs.
But Daughter Two will shortly be heading to Spain for an Erasmus ‘stage’ so, Bug-permitting, we hope to visit her there. Stefi’s never been, and my last visit was so long ago that I barely remember it.
Brushing up my Spanish would probably be a good idea. Daughter Two is taking weekly lessons with a NativeSpeakerTeacher. com Spanish teacher in preparation, as I did a few years back during the pandemic.
She and her teacher mostly chat, apparently, and I think that’s great. Confidence listening and interacting is a great help when you find yourself in a country where the language you’re learning is spoken. After that, she’ll just pick it up.
If it was me, I’d be maxing out on listening to and reading Spanish, given that she’ll be working in a hospital and doing a university exam during her stay. But kids, huh? You can’t tell ’em.
For anyone with the resources, one-to-one lessons (for conversation etc. – doesn’t have to be just grammar, or involve any grammar at all for that matter) would be a good way forward in 2024.
If you don’t have the cash, then reading and listening to EasyItalianNews.com, especially if you can make a habit of it, will see you make good progress.
And of course, there’s all the free material on the club website. A lot of club members sign up for these articles, yet never even notice all the great stuff they could be learning with.
E’ così.
There’s a -20% coupon code for online lessons in the P.S. section below. Why pay the full price?
Alla prossima settimana.
P.S. January Sale -20% Online Lessons Coupon Code
At NativeSpeakerTeachers.com, the 2024 January Sale starts today!
Use coupon code
2024-January-Sale-20%-Off
to save 20% on the Italian, French, German and Spanish lessons that will help you make progress with your chosen foreign language this coming year.
All you have to do to discount the price of lesson credits by 20% is to copy and paste
2024-January-Sale-20%-Off
into the box in your shopping cart. Once pasted, press the ‘Apply coupon’ button and – this is important – SCROLL DOWN to check the CART TOTAL is reduced.
The prices of individual items don’t change, which can make you think that the coupon code hasn’t worked.
Have a go, just to see how it works:
- Select, for example, a pack of online Italian lessons with one of our teachers. Press the ‘Add to cart’ button below the product image to, well, add it to your cart. Or click on the image to read more, then look for the orange ‘Add to cart’ button on the product page.
- View the contents of your cart at any point by clicking on ‘Cart‘, or on the shopping basket icon at the top of the page.
- See your selection, ready to be bought? But at the full price… So, where’s that pesky coupon code? Ah! Here it is: 2024-January-Sale-20%-Off
- Control + C to copy it, Control + V to paste it into the box where it says ‘Apply coupon’ (on a Mac, use Command + C, Command + V, on a smartphone or tablet – I have no idea – ask a child…)
- Press the ‘Apply coupon’ button and scroll down to check the total has been discounted
- Magic! It worked. Now, were this a real purchase, rather than a practice run, you’d then press the ‘Proceed to checkout’ button and do the usual online shopping stuff.
- But as we’re just playing, have a go at removing your test purchase from the cart. There’s a little red X to the left of the product image (in the cart). Click it and whatever you no longer desire will be removed.
Beh, yes, I admit – it all sounds rather a palaver. Actually, though, it’s much easier and faster to DO than to describe in writing, I promise.
So, for real now – the coupon code ( 2024-January-Sale-20%-Off ) will work on anything/everything you see on the home page of the online lessons store.
Offer Details
- This promotion ends on January 6th 2024, after which the coupon code will no longer be valid
- The next offer won’t be until the April, so online students should stock up now…
- You can use the coupon code as often as you wish until the night of 6th January 2024
- Coupon code ( 2024-January-Sale-20%-Off ) won’t work with other coupon codes – choose one!
What, then, should you consider buying?
The ten-pack of online Italian lessons, now £200 for ten thirty-minute sessions, is a steal once discounted by 20%.
Use the coupon code on that one and you’ll be paying just £16.00 a lesson, that’s £32.00 an hour.
Go ask at a ‘proper’ language school how much an hour’s lesson would cost you (but beware, because at many places you pay for an hour but actually get just 45 minutes…)
Our regular online students wait for the offers and stock up with enough lesson credits to get them through until the next promotion, several months later.
That way they can take one or more lessons each week while never paying the full price.
Here’s that coupon code again:
2024-January-Sale-20%-Off
