I don’t know about where you live, but in the UK, where I come from, if you buy a litre or so of milk you pay, say £0.66.
Whereas if you buy the two litre pack it will cost you less, perhaps significantly less, in this case just £0.44.
In my local supermarket in Bologna, though, milk comes in just the one size.
Which means that, even though my kids drink gallons of the stuff, I get no discount for quantity.
Guess I should get myself a cow and cut out the middle man…
Ditto for beer (which I drink a quantity of) and many other products.
Sadly, four cans of not-very-nice Italian ale costs much the same per litre as one can does.
To be fair, some of the brighter food companies, such as that rare Italian success story, Nutella, DO have it figured out.
When it comes to chocolate spreads, little jars cost appropriately more per kilo than bigger jars.
What about something as ubiquitous as pasta?
Nope. Pack sizes are mostly 500g., sometimes 1 kilo. And hey, the later cost approximately double the former!
Oh well, this is sort of thing that makes life in a foreign country so endlessly fascinating…
Anyway, I’ll come to the point.
Here at onlineitalianclub.com we do NOT make the same mistake…
