Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
Why don’t you get back into bed
is the opening to the 1979 single by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, ‘Reasons to be cheerful part 3’.
I may have done this article before, in which case, forgive me, but like many such existential questions, it’s the sort of thing that comes around again.
Bet you didn’t know, the song was written and recorded in Rome (Wikipedia).
While the band was touring, there was an incident in which one of the roadies was nearly electrocuted.
It’s hinted at in the third stanza:
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You’re welcome, we can spare it – yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on 40 – no electric shocks
Indeed, no electric shocks.
Besides that?
Our cat is still alive (won’t be for long…)
I had a job interview this week.
The kids are healthy, and doing well at school/uni.
We’ve got colds, so have been feeling lousy.
But this morning, who knows, perhaps a little better.
I just cleared the ‘Spam’ comments from the club website (more than seventy since Wednesday, mostly trying to sell medications to unfortunates in the USA).
Not a single one got through our system, which is pleasing.
It’s Friday.
Anything else?

Thursday’s EasyItalianNews.com edition can be heard/read here.
See the list of donors, to whom we are all extremely grateful, here.
My advice on how to use the site is here.
Feel free to ignore it, but if you do, try to resist the tempation to write in and complain that:
– like all teenagers, my son speaks too quickly when he reads the ‘news’
– that Italian has too many words in it
– that the government here is run by politicians you’re unfamiliar with
– or that Italians confuse ‘football’ and ‘soccer’.
Wait, here’s an idea!
You could donate first, THEN write in with your intelligent observations, which will be carefully considered…
