P.S.
A few editions of EasyItalianNews.com back, someone commented that our young newsreader, Tom, was speaking too quickly.
To which I and another listener replied that, in fact, people do speak quickly, not just spotty youth, and that, as language learners, one needs to get used to it.
So that was him told.
Now, guess what?
Listening to the first story in this morning’s edition, I too got the strong impression the lad was rushing.
Kids, huh?
Just when you think you’ve got ’em well trained, they go and do something to show you up.
He was also slurring.
Which totally is a feature of natural speech!
Yet isn’t terribly helpful when recording material for learners, especially ones prone to moan.
Anyway, I got right on to the editor (his mum) to point this out.
She admitted that, despite having listened to the whole .mp3 before publishing it, she hadn’t noticed.
But then, having listened once again:
“Ah yes… It is rather fast, isn’t it?”
She’ll have a word, she assured me.
I suggested a thorough slapping with a wet towel.
But no, we’ll be giving him a chance to calm his horses down a little. first.
It was mostly the first story that was read at breakneck pace.
Judge for yourself (it’s free.)
Many thanks to everyone who donated, by the way.
