Buondì.
Many thanks to all club members who have sent donations to help with the costs of the new-ish EasyItalianNews.com.
Dollars, Australian dollars, pounds and to a lesser extent, euros have been pouring into our Paypal account, which is gratifying.
On the ‘donate’ page, it’s possible to select the currency you prefer, as well as the donation amount.
Then there’s a space which asks for ‘Your name or organisation:’ and a note in italics below it – ‘Leave blank if you wish to remain anonymous‘.
IF you fill in that box with your name, or organisation, then I’ll add that information to the list at the bottom of the ‘donate’ page, where it says ‘Many, many thanks to…’.
(You have to scroll all the way down the page to see it…)
Otherwise, your gift will be anyonymous, and therefore unacknowledged, other than here – THANK YOU!
OK, and still on the topic of EasyItalianNews.com, have you listened to Saturday’s news?
It was a good one, with articles on Lady Gaga, Kiera Knightley and knitting…
Click here to read/listen to the Saturday morning ‘edition’ (for free!)
There’ll be new news tomorrow morning, about this time, then again on Thursday and Saturday.
And you can get the bulletins emailed directly to your inbox (still for free) by filling in the form in the sidebar of the website, where it says NEVER MISS ‘EASY ITALIAN NEWS’!
1184 people have already done this successfully, a much, much smaller number have had difficulties.
The one thing the various ‘easy news’ customer service issues have had in common, apart from the person’s understandable frustration, is that the ‘please confirm by clicking the link’ email has not arrived.
My theory is that this is only happening with smaller email providers – there are some in Australia that are particularly problematic, and some company systems also over-enthusiastically block ‘spam’.
If this is the case then a simple solution should be to use a free Gmail or Yahoo email account instead when you sign up for your thrice-weekly, free ‘easy Italian news’ bulletins.
You can always set up the lesser-used Gmail email account to forward incoming emails to the account that you use more regularly.
So, if you’ve not already done so, go visit the new site and add your email in the side bar, on the left-hand side of the page, more or less in the center.
Bene, and now for a new ‘Book of the Week’!
After last week’s elementary-level ‘Yue a Bologna’, this week I’ve chosen something meatier!
‘Divorzio all’italiana’ is our easy-reader ebook version of one of the most famous Italian movies from the 60’s, directed by Pietro Germi.
We’re in the south of Italy, back in the days when divorce was illegal, and the film’s protagonist is unhappily married… What is he to do?
We published this back in 2015 and one of the reviews we received then was from Tina, who had this to say:
I enjoyed reading Divorzio All’italiana! The book is written for foreigners and it is simple, clear, concise and very interesting to read which makes it an easy and enjoyable experience!
The book can serve as an excellent introduction to watching a movie and deepening the knowledge of Italian culture, especially cinema.
Each chapter is accompanied by a glossary of unfamiliar words, a short questionnaire and language exercises that make reading even more fun. The dictionary provides easier reading of the text, questions about the text that check the understanding of the reading, and language exercises which can check and improve your grammar knowledge. Of course, on the last page of the book there is an answer key.
This is the fourth book I bought from OnlineItalianClub library! I would recommend you all to treat yourself to one of the books! I hope you would enjoy it the same way I did.
And believe me, when you get to the last page and realize that you have read the book in Italian, it allows you with great joy, pride, self-confidence and big motivation to continue learning the language! ????
Thanks, Tina!
Other reviews can be found here.
And I strongly recommend taking a look at the free sample chapter (.pdf) – you’ll want to understand the complexity and length of the material BEFORE you buy it, and check to see it works on the device you plan to use it on.
And that’s that.
Don’t forget, ‘Divorzio all’italiana’ is HALF PRICE all this week, so just £3.99 rather than the usual ebook price of £7.99.
The offer lasts until Sunday night, but why wait?
