There’s no doubt that today’s Italian listening practice exercise would have been better suited for a reading lesson.
Don’t know what Martina was thinking of… That said, she had to come up with eight ideas per level, for six different levels, which can’t have been easy!
Today’s exercise is an example of a formal letter in Italian. As you’ll hear (see, when you get to the transcript), Italians do insist on starting their job application letters with “my name is…”, which always drives me crazy.
Still, that’s the way to do it, and if you’re preparing for a CILS exam, planning to look for a job in Italy (one word: don’t), or just curious, well this might be of interest!
As always, I’ll remind you: do the listening first, at least once, before studying the transcript.
And as always, if you’re reading this in an e-mail or infernal fruit-branded computer or tablet device, you’ll probably need to visit our website to be able to use the listening plugin.

2. LETTERA FORMALE
Alla Cortese attenzione del Dottor Guido Rossi
responsabile dell’ufficio del personale
della scuola di italiano Giovanni Boccaccio
Sede di Pechino
Gentile Dottor Rossi,

Occasionally someone sends me a shirty e-mail asking me why I insist on spamming them.
This is why:
- You signed up to hear about new, free material for learning Italian, and relevant offers
- That’s what I’m sending
- There’s a link in EVERY, SINGLE E-MAIL which you can click to ‘un-subscribe’
- Un-subscribing automatically and permanently deletes your data
- If you don’t open the e-mails, or open them and get angry with me, this is not a good outcome for anyone
- Plus, keeping you on the list costs me money. Not much, but it’s money we could be spending on someone who appreciates what we do…
So if this is you who sends irate messages, please, please, do us both a favor and look for the ‘unsubscribe’ link (probably at the bottom of the page).
No need to write to apologise.
Just click the unsubscribe link, once.
Then tick the button that says ‘unsubscribe’.
And that’s ‘arriverderci’!
One less unwanted mail clogging up your in-box.
