Italian Vocabulary: Nationalities

Note the masculine and feminine forms, where they exist. Generally, masculine forms end in -o while feminine ones end in -a.

You can see that the words ending in “-ese” (i.e. inglese) are the same whether you’re male or female.

italiano, italiana – Italian
tedesco, tedesca – German
spagnolo, spagnola – Spanish
austriaco, austriaca – Austrian
svizzero, svizzera – Swiss
spagnolo, spagnola – Spanish
polacco, polacca – Pole
russo, russa – Russian
inglese – English
irlandese – Irish
portoghese – Portuguese
francese – French
danese – Dane
