Uso intransitivo e transitivo di un verbo [transitive and intransitive uses of a verb]

Look at these three pairs of sentences:

-Il concerto è cominciato tardi.

-Ieri sera ho cominciato a leggere un libro.

-Il concerto è finito a mezzanotte.

-Ho finito di scrivere l’email e l’ho spedita.

-La festa è cominciata alle 22.00 ed è continuata fino alle 3.00.

-Ho cominciato a scrivere allle 22.00 e ho continuato fino alle 3.00.

The main difference is given by the use of a different auxiliary verb:

-with intransitive verbs we use the verb “essere” and the participio passato changes according to the subject.

-with transitive verbs we use the verb “avere“.
