Use of “prima di…”

This construction is another way to express that something happened before another event of the past, the present or the future. It is very simple to use, but notice one important thing: the subject is the same both in both sentences. If subjects are different, this construction cannot be used.

Prima di [before] + infinitive

Examples:

– Prima di avere una promozione, Michele ha lavorato molto come cassiere.

– Prima di chiudere la porta ho controllato di avere le chiavi.

– Prima di andare a letto mi lavo i denti.

– Prima di andare a Madrid ci fermeremo due giorni a Barcellona.
