When talking about passive voice, we refer to a subject who does not act as a real subject: he/she doesn’t do anything and the action is not aimed to an object. It is more correct to say that the subject is the recipient of the action indicated by the verb and the action itself is done by another element of the sentence which is called Complemento d’Agente (agent) when represented by a person, while Complemento di causa efficiente when represented by an inanimated thing or an animal. These two complements are introduced by the preposition “da“.
The auxiliary verb is always Essere.
