You’ve learned that determinative articles must not be used with names of persons and towns. This page will show you some exceptions to this rule.
With name of cities: when we want to underline some particular caractheristics or the specif period of which we are talking, as in the examples below:
– La magica Venezia.
– La Venezia del ‘700.
With personal names when we are talking following a regional use of the language:
– La Chaira
– La Francesca
– La Vittoria
The name preceded by an adjective:
– Il buon Francesco
– La bella Maria
To specify the link between different entities, as in the examples that follow:
– Il Fellini di Amarcord
– Lo Shakespeare di Romeo e Giulietta
