Buondì.
Today we have a new ‘Book of the Classic Italian Movie’ out.
Honestly, I’d never heard of ‘Accattone‘, but I HAD heard of Pier Paolo Pasolini, a left-wing writer, poet and director who was famously murdered.
It was the ‘seventies, a period of violent turmoil in Italy, and Pasolini met his gruesome end at the hands of a casual lover, or the mafia, depending on what you want to believe.
If you can spare a minute or two, do check out the movie’s original Italian-language trailer, from which I translated the quote that makes up the title of this article:
Don’t miss the chance to see an intelligent movie (for once!)
You can see where they were going with the marketing…
Left-wing views? Like poetry and literature? You gotta see this!
If you have MORE than a couple of minutes to spare today, the entire film seems to be available free on Youtube.
There are multiple versions to choose from. Search for ‘Accattone’ or follow this link to the Italian version:

What?
You’re worried you won’t understand any of it?
Yes, that’s probably true.
But you could watch it anyway, for a bit of culture at least.
And your family / friends / colleages don’t need to know that you’re only getting one word in ten, do they?
All that said, if you fancy a helping hand, check out our easy-reader version of the story.
It’s been lovingly-crafted by OnlineItalianClub.com’s very own scriptwriter cum online teacher, Giovanni.
Read it before or after tackling the movie to get help working out who’s who, as well as for the invaluable reading/listening practice!
P.S.
If you like movies and/or bargains, don’t miss our ‘bundle’ of Book of the Classic Italian Movie ebooks.
‘Accattone‘ isn’t in it, but nine other stories are…

P.P.S.
Thanks to everyone who booked a free trial online Italian lesson last week.
The offer has now ended, but if you missed it, not to worry. We’ll likely give you another chance in the Autumn…
Yesterday I spoke to our teaching manager, Lucia.
She said to mention that she’s contacted everyone but is taking it easy booking the lessons so “they get only the best teachers, the ones we trust”.
A mercoledì!
